Where will Your Path Lead?

The transition to college life can be both an exciting and challenging time. Your new student transition experience will help you successfully prepare for your college transition. Together, we will take the University of Florida to new heights.

First, there is Preview, a required, robust virtual program, focused on providing you the core resources to start your Gator journey. Then you will be invited to participate in Gator Nation Visit Days (GNV Days), an optional one-day in-person transition program to help you get connected and learn about all the campus has to offer.

Registration Steps for Preview

Students & Families will register for a 1-day session in May or June. Each session will consist of live Zoom meetings that engage incoming students with their peers, an academic advisor, and help them register for classes. Students should be available from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. PM EDT for their Preview date. Family Preview will take place during the week of their students’ session and have live and recorded options for families to engage and ask questions.

Yes, all new students are required to complete orientation. Through orientation, students will meet with an academic advisor, have the opportunity to register for classes and learn how to be a successful Gator in and out of the classroom.
Family members are an important role in the transition of their student. During Preview, family members will also be able to learn about UF and engage with our campus partners. Additionally, family members can engage with our office and subscribe to regular newsletters, and have access to a regular podcast series specifically designed for family members.
Selecting a specific session ensures that we are able to meet the individual needs of each student, especially when it comes to academic advising. There will be times that you will need to be present for Zoom video conferences or phone calls during your selected session.
Students and Families will be able to attend Gator Nation Visit Days, in July. This in-person transition program is an optional opportunity for students and families to visit campus, connect with other new students, and engage with campus resources. Students must complete their student Preview program as it is UF’s mandatory orientation program where you will register for first-semester classes.
Preview will consist of one semi-structured day of information. You will need to complete your UF Preview academic and resource course in Canvas prior to your session date. Then during the morning of your session, you will engage with current UF staff and students to ask questions about what it’s like to be a Gator and prepare for your individual advising appointment in the afternoon. Preview is designed to provide information about your academic transition to college and help you navigate your Gator student experience.
The University of Florida holds and releases spaces in critical courses for each Preview session. It does not matter which session you attend because all Preview participants have an equal opportunity to register for classes.
If you attend Preview before you receive your scores, you will estimate your scores at orientation, and we will assist you in registering for the appropriate courses. If your scores turn out to be different than anticipated, you can contact the Academic Advising Center after Preview for schedule adjustments.
For your Preview, you will need access to the internet in order to register for classes. Computer access is ideal, but smartphones will often times work. If you do not have access to these items for your Preview session, please contact New Student & Family Programs at least 7 business days in advance of your scheduled Preview session so that proper assistance may be given to your request.
No. Academic advising appointments and other sessions are designed specifically for students. Family members who try to sit in an individual student’s session will be asked to leave.
In the event of a conflict with a session for which you have a registered, please log into your reservation to change your session date. Please note we will not be able to place you in a session that has closed or is filled to capacity so please make sure to register for a session you are able to attend. You can click on “Register” on the main orientation menu to view changes to your registration.
Yes, your immunization paperwork should be submitted prior to your virtual session date. Immunization paperwork can be found on the Health Compliance website (https://healthcompliance.shcc.ufl.edu/immunization-requirement/immunizations). If you are concerned about not being able to submit your immunization paperwork on time, please e-mail our office at newstudentinfo@dso.ufl.edu.
Please click on the “Register” link and log back into the registration website to see if your payment has been processed. If you did not pay online and it has been more than 15 working days since you mailed your check and it has not been processed, please check with your bank to see if the check has cleared. If the check has cleared and we have not processed it, email us at newstudentinfo@dso.ufl.edu. Include your name, UFID, check number, and name on the check or money order
Student waivers are available and granted to eligible students who have demonstrated financial need. They are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Financial need/waiver eligibility is typically demonstrated through a completed FAFSA application showing a zero expected family contribution, Pell Grant Eligibility, or other forms of financial assistance. Since the number of waivers is limited, students who meet the qualifications are not guaranteed a waiver, if all waivers have been awarded. The waiver application can be found by visiting our Preview Waiver Request page.
Once a student registers for Preview he or she is then responsible for paying the cost in full. Refunds are available for registration cancellations at least five (5) working days prior to a session.
If you require special accommodations for orientation, please specify this on your registration. If you were unable to report this please feel free to email newstudentinfo@dso.ufl.edu. We will do our best to assist with all accommodation requests.
If your question wasn’t answered, please feel free to reach out to us. You may call our office at 352-392-8396 or e-mail your questions to newstudentinfo@dso.ufl.edu.
